Firozepur, Dec 7 – A distressing incident unfolded in Firozepur as a jeweller father and son chose to end their lives, reportedly due to a domestic dispute. The tragedy occurred on Wednesday, with one of them jumping into a canal and the other consuming a poisonous substance.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Rajinder Dhawan (60), the father, and Rahul Dhawan (32), the son, residents of Dharmpura. The father’s body has been sent to Faridkot Medical College for post-mortem, while efforts are ongoing to recover the son’s body from the canal.
The father and son had reportedly gone to their shop on Wednesday morning, where an altercation ensued due to a domestic dispute. Subsequently, Rajinder returned home and consumed a poisonous substance, leading to his deteriorating health. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital of Firozpur but succumbed to the poison during treatment.
Upon learning of his father’s demise, Rahul took the drastic step of jumping into the canal while crossing the Firozpur-Faridkot highway. Despite ongoing efforts, his body has yet to be recovered.
The police have initiated an investigation into the case, registering it and looking into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The community is left in shock as the authorities work to understand the dynamics leading to this unfortunate outcome.
