Chandigarh, Nov 30 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its anti-corruption campaign, on Wednesday nabbed Patwari Narjeet Singh, posted at Sham Churasi, Hoshiarpur district, red-handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.


A spokesperson for the VB said this case has been registered against the Patwari on the complaint of Baldev Singh of village Kadiana in Hoshiarpur district.


He added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the Patwari has demanded Rs 30,000 as a bribe in lieu of the transfer and mutation of his land, but the deal has been struck at Rs 25,000.


The spokesperson further added that the VB unit of Jalandhar Range has investigated the allegations leveled in the complaint and laid a trap in which the accused Patwari has been arrested red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered at the VB police station in Jalandhar range against the Patwari. He would be produced in the competent court on Thursday.


Further investigation in this case was under progress, he informed.
