Varanasi, Dec 8 – Four members of a family, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, allegedly committed mass suicide under mysterious circumstances in Andhra Ashram in Devnathpura area under Dashashwamedh police station on Thursday.


Police sources here said that the 50-year old Kond, his wife Lavaniya and their two sons Rajesh and Jai Raj, hailing from East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, committed suicide by hanging with the help of a rope from the ceiling of their rooms on the third floor of Kashi Bhawan of Andhra Ashram here.


The sources said that the family had arrived in Varanasi on December 3 and was supposed to leave today. “Their bodies were spotted by the Ashram staff this morning after which the police were informed,” they said.
Police along with the forensic team have reached the spot and launched an investigation. “No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The bodies were sent for postmortem,” sources said.
