Kannur, Dec 02 – AICC leader and Wayanad MP, Rahul Gandhi on Friday said writers can fearlessly speak the truth, but the politicians have a hard time telling the truth.

Gandhi was addressing a gathering after presenting the first Priyadarshini Literature award, instituted by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), to noted Malayalam writer T Padmanabhan, in a function held at Sadhoo auditorium here.

Gandhi said, ” I have faced many problems in my life because of telling the truth “. However, he opined that he only told the truth as part of his legacy and the people will accept it.

He also noted that ultimately truth wins.

Gandhi also said a nation cannot be built on lies, “and we willbuild the nation through truth. Our ancestors and freedom fighters realised this truth”.

He called upon politicians to embrace the ethos of writers.

Gandhi applauded T Padmanabhan for writing great works with honesty, “That is why writer Padmanabhan can speak the truth fearlessly and deliver their messages to the public,” he said.
