Imphal, Dec.01: Manipur Health and Information Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh said the free diagnostic and free medicine schemes of the government should reach the common people. Dr. Ranjan was speaking as a chief guest at the launch of the awareness program on gender-based violence and medical legal care for survivors and victims of sexual violence held on Thursday.


Ranjan stated that the government has introduced many welfare schemes. The health sector is given priority by the government. The public should have knowledge and awareness of the benefits of the health and medical schemes of the government. The government is also providing cost-effective generic medicines that have standard efficacy. Such health schemes helped those who were living with low incomes, he added.


He said that concerned officials of the Health Department should be sincere to avail the public of the benefits of the various health schemes. The medicines supplied to government hospitals should be distributed to visiting patients. Coordination among the health officials is required. The Department of Social Welfare and the Health Department also need to work together, as the Minister suggested.
Commissioner, Health, Pradeep Kumar Jha, said that mutual respect between different genders will help to prevent gender-based violence. The idea of gender equality amongst us is also required. Awareness in this regard is also necessary for timely prevention of gender-based violence, he added.
