Jammu, Oct 26 — The Border Road Organisation (BRO) has achieved a significant milestone in Project Sampark on National Highway 144A (NH144A) from Akhnoor to Poonch. The first of the four tunnels, the 260-meter-long Kandi Tunnel, has successfully achieved its breakthrough, marking an exceptional accomplishment in enhancing the Horizontal and Vertical Profile of the road.

The crucial project, divided into eight packages, is making remarkable progress despite adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and landslides. Commencing in March 2023, the tunnel work surpassed expectations, achieving its breakthrough ahead of schedule.

Brigadier Tejpal Singh, Chief Engineer Project Sampark, witnessed the momentous occasion, emphasizing the strategic significance of this achievement. Package – 1, including the Kandi Tunnel, is expected to be completed by June 2024.

The completion of this tunnel will reduce the road’s length by 2.5 kilometers, facilitating more efficient travel between Akhnoor and Poonch. Beyond its role in improving connectivity, the tunnel holds strategic importance for the Armed Forces, enhancing smooth and expedient movement from Jammu to Poonch.
