Pune, Dec 5 : The Vatsalabai Joshi Award of this year will be conferred on Patiala Gharana’s veteran vocalist, Padma Vibhushan Begum Parveen Sultana during upcoming 69th Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav to be held at the Sports Complex of Maharashtriya Mandal here from December 13 to 17, announced organiser on Monday.
The award comprises Rs 51,000 in cash and a memento.
“Every year since 2007, this award is given to the artists who have made valuable contributions in the field of Indian classical music. This year, it will be presented to Begum Parveen Sultana during the upcoming 69th Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav,” said Shrinivas Joshi, executive president of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, the body which instituted the award.
He further said that every year a special photo exhibition is organised at the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav on a theme related to artists from the Indian Classical music.
While sharing information about this year’s photo exhibition, renowned photographer Satish Paknikar said, “This year’s photo exhibition will be titled ‘Swar-Chitra Aadaranjali.’
A section of this exhibition will be dedicated to Pt Kumar Gandharva, Pt Ram Marathe and Pt C R Vyas as a part of their centenary year celebration, he added.
