Guwahati, Dec.01: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday gifted scooters to 35770 students under Assam’s Pragyan Bharati scheme, resulting in 60pc and 75pc scores for girls and boys respectively in secondary exams.

It noted that it was instituted in the memory of the great litterateur and linguist, Dr Banikanta Kakati.

“I sincerely hope the scooty presented in recognition of the good academic performance of the students will motivate them to do better in the future as well,” he said.

He also said that Assam’s Pragyan Bharati scheme has also been intended to subsidize household expenditure on higher education. Therefore, the scope of this scheme in the coming days will be expanded to bring free scooties, free textbooks, and subsidized hostel fees.

Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu and MLA Paramananda Rajbongshi attended the meeting.
