Vijayawada, Nov 28: In a significant development, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh has issued directives to expedite the construction of Dr BR Ambedkar Smriti Vanam in Vijayawada. The ambitious project includes the installation of a 125-feet tall bronze statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, a key figure in India’s social and political history.

During a comprehensive review meeting held at the Camp Office, Chief Minister Reddy underscored the historical importance of the Ambedkar Project. He emphasized that the initiative embodies principles of social justice, constitutional supremacy, and democratic values, playing a pivotal role in fostering unity, brotherhood, and social harmony.

Officials apprised the Chief Minister that the project is progressing at a steady pace, and they are committed to completing the works by January 15. The statue is slated for inauguration on January 24, just ahead of Republic Day. The statue will stand atop an 81-feet pedestal, bringing the total height to an impressive 206 feet.

As part of the project, the Smriti Vanam premises will be adorned with greenery, and all necessary facilities will be provided. The convention center, integral to the project, is also on track for completion. Chief Minister Reddy urged officials to ensure constant monitoring of the project’s progress, emphasizing the need for foolproof project management.

In addition to the statue, officials highlighted beautification efforts along the flood protection wall in the Krishnalanka area. The park and walking track are undergoing significant development, contributing to the overall enhancement of the project.

Deputy CM (Endowments) K. Satyanarayana, Municipal Administration Minister A. Suresh, Social Welfare Minister M. Nagarjuna, and Special CS (MA & UD) Y. Sri Lakshmi were among the dignitaries present at the review meeting.

The Dr BR Ambedkar Smriti Vanam project stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to preserving and promoting the legacy of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, whose contributions to social justice and equality remain an enduring inspiration.
